Hace un mesWe stayed early August for a week and had a very relaxing time with extended family. Would recommend.
We loved the house and garden as there is so much space; it is peaceful and private. The pool was great, clean and good size. We bought some inflatables from a beach shop which were very popular. There’s a shallow area near the steps which is good for toddlers to hang out in. The garden has lots of shady areas which is useful in the heat. We used the bbq area too. We saw quite a few birds - swallows and hoopoes.
The house itself is cool and has air con, fans and good windows with anti-mosquito nets. Lots of bedrooms (many family rooms with a double and a bunk bed - they provide bed guards for kids too which was helpful), and plenty of space to relax. We were a group of 11 so didn’t use all the rooms. The kitchen is well equipped.
The house has character and quirks which in my view is a plus. Just to say the piano is more decorative than functional, as were several of the historical/characterful chairs which we put aside as we didn’t want to risk damaging them. Everything has a rustic feel which again suited us, and anything that we flagged up as broken or requiring attention was attended to promptly.
Booking was straightforward, initially on a booking site and then once the initial dates enquiry was done it was all by email/bank transfer/whatsapp. Coming from the UK I wasn’t initially totally used to this latter aspect but it is normal for holiday properties in Spain and was all straightforward, with receipts and a contract which I saw before booking and then signed on arrival. Gerard was friendly, responsive, polite and helpful and we had no trouble at all with any aspect of the process.
The house is about 15-20 min drive from the coast and we particularly liked Playas de la Mora and Altafulla. Tarragona worth visiting including for Roman amphitheatre and nearby aqueduct. It’s a 6 min drive from the house to a bakery in Alcover called Fornet which is also opposite a large Spar.
One tip is to eat out for lunch more than dinner. Many places strangely are not open for dinner even if they say they are Google so recommend aiming for lunch! If you do need a dinner option we tried Posit which is a seafood restaurant with several branches and was very good. There were recommendations on the back of the main door too.
Other activities we did with kids were Jungle Trek zip wiring (great with our 7 year old and older but not sure I’d have taken 4-5 year old), Caribe aquatic park (go as soon as it opens to minimise queues - we didn’t and regretted it!). But they were very happy hanging out in the pool and with the odd beach trip. My husband runs a lot and says the roads around are good for running (and cycling).
